Home Alone With Two Kids: Guest Post by Mom Expert Jessica R.

Today’s guest blog post is from Wishpot Mom Expert Jessica (love the name by the way!). Sounds like she needs someone to send help. Stat.
A week? With no daycare? And all our playdate friends heading out of town? What to do? What to do with these two kids who are so used to being entertained 8 hours a day by their daycare pals? There’s no way I can live up to the expectation, especially when you factor the work I have to get done into the equation.
I woke up this morning with fear in my gut. Is it sad that I’m scared to be alone with my two rather well behaved children? We got up and pretended it was a regular day. I got them dressed and found clothes for myself and we headed north to the gym, where I hoped they’d be entertained for an hour or so while I plotted the rest of the day while burning a few calories.
308 calories and 3.02 elliptical miles later (not that I was keeping track or anything) I still had nothing planned, but at least I’d burned off some of my anxiety. Two children under the age of 3, how bad could it really be? If they started getting restless I’d bundle them into the car and head to paradise: the toy aisle at Target.
We got home seconds before the baby succumbed to a much needed morning nap and miracle of all miracles the 3 year old entertained herself for the hour that followed. I fed them a healthy lunch (Rotisserie chicken, string cheese, carrots, and grapes in case you were wondering.) and then sat down in their room to play for a while. And that’s when the miracles continued. They were so engrossed in their play that they never noticed when I got up to go clean the kitchen. So I left them to it and went back to my computer. What else was a busy working mom to do?
Four blog posts later and I’m ready to turn off the computer and give them my full attention. They’ve playing with their classic Fisher Price school house, their Weeble Wooble tree house, their drum set, and more doll clothes than you can possibly imagine. The house looks like it’s been hit by a tornado, and somehow both children are coated in mud and running around in the buff. But it’s ok, I got to hear C squeeze her baby sister and exclaim "You’re my best little sister in the world!" which makes all the clean up well worth it. Though, to be honest, I might not even bother seeing as tomorrow we get to do it all over again. If you’re headed to Target, keep an eye open, you might spot us in the toy area.
