Babyluxe Fridays: Snow! No comments yet

As our weather here in NC dipped into the single digits this week, with snow showers in the near future, my kids are SO excited for that whole hour of snow time they will most likely get very soon! Basically, this is how it is here: Once a Winter we get that one day of snow, or should I say a few hours of snow. School is closed, the city basically shuts down {so funny since I’m from Central NY where we trudge through blizzards on a daily basis in the Winter} and the kids are thrilled! We race out into the snow by 8 am, play for maybe an hour or so and by 11am all that is left is the sad little ball of snow and sticks that was the “snowman” we made!
My point of this story; since I grew up sledding and skiing and snowmobiling, it’s funny to watch my kids grow up with “warm” winters. How different it is to be at the park with no coats on in the middle of January compared to not being able to move in the snow suits I had to wear in NY; and the park, you couldn’t even see where the park was, the top stair on the highest slide was barely sticking out of all the snow!
Basically, I miss the snow for my kids and I envy all of you who have it. Now don’t get me wrong, a week of it and I’m sick of it, but I’m an adult. For some reason, kids thrive in the snow! The cold doesn’t faze them, frost bite could set in for hours and they would never know! If you have the snow, let them enjoy it! Nothing is sweeter than watching a child make his first snowman, or ride together on a sled with his older brother, or hold on tight to Daddy while they drive around the yard on the snowmobile going 1 MPH. Make the most of Winter, make the most of the snow! Teach your child to ski and ice skate; they will treasure those skills for years to come!
Fall and Winter pretty much blend into each other here in NC so our cold weather activities are all the same; sure we could drive just a bit to the mountains and get all the snow we want, but nothing beats having it right out your front door!
