GREEN a licious Dee’s Friday Picks! No comments yet

Going Green — Stylishly!

Everyone’s going green this season and I’m definitely jumping on the bandwagon! Whether it’s bright or dull, the many shades of green are known to add a touch of class to any piece. Below are a few items that are must-haves for this season if you’re planning on ‘going green’.

Convertible Swing Dress from J Crew - $78.00

I love pieces that are double-duty and this dress can work all year ’round! You can wear this dress a few different ways: classically mid-length, flirty and short, or even as a swinging top or skirt! As versatile as it can be, this convertible can be worn day or night - casual or dressy. It’s an absolute necessity for any summer wardrobe! My favorite color offered is Tropical Palm, an exquisite deep green that could compliment any skin color.

clip_image004

BCBG Max Azria Beaded Jersey Maxi from Bloomingdale’s - $178.00

I’m a huge fan of maxi dresses during the summer because they’re so easily dressed up or down. Add a pair of flat sandals and you have the perfect summer day look! Then switch those flats for a stiletto or wedge and you’re ready for happy hour drinks! The dress has a side zipper, a soft gathered design to the fabric, and the intricate beading only adds to it’s elegantly ethnic look.

clip_image002

Big Buddha Stephanie Bag from Baghaus - $39.95

Made from a tightly knit lycra polyester blend, this is casual enough for everyday use. With it’s beautiful knit exterior and gold-toned hardware, you can tote this everywhere from the beach to the next barbecue!

clip_image014

Botkier Trigger Moto Clutch from Bergdorf Goodman - $395

clip_image012

This clutch’s style is modern and classic with it’s soft leather and multiple zippers. Works as both a shoulder bag or clutch to fit all your summer adventures!

A few accessory pieces that will make others ‘green with envy’!

Sailor Knot Bracelet from Urban Outfitters - $5.00

clip_image010

Lacquered Heart Ring from Forever21 - $3.80

clip_image008

Tear Drop Thread Earrings from Forever21 - $4.80

clip_image006

I looove green! And these green finds are glorious. So go ahead and add a little green to your wish list. I know I am. I heart that Buddha bag

ShesDaily joins Wishpot! No comments yet

Wishpot Welcomes ShesDaily as a fashion expert!

shedaily

My name is Mara Stanziani I’m from New York City and co- founder and editor of Shesdaily.com a blog and site dedicated to beauty and style.
I’m a beauty fanatic and fashion crazy . Since I live in New York City, which for me is to be not only the capital of the world but also the capital for fashion, I’ve come to know alot more about both fashion and style. I try my best to stay updated with the latest trends, by going at least once a month, on what I call "ShesDaily Spree Day" .

What is a ShesDaily Spree Day?
Well either I go with my friend or daughter into the city and go window shopping for the latest fashion trends. Well I must say window shopping isn’t the appropriate word because I usually always end up shopping.

Why do I do this? because I like to see what is out there and what can I write about to share with my readers on my blog and most of all it’s fun.

What is it that I look for?
Well when I enter a store the first thing  that draws to my attention is color, if in that particular store for example Yellow catches my eye then immediately I look into that particular yellow top,  pants, shoes it can even be a handbag or an accessory. I try to look at more than one article in that  particular color to see what personal touch has been  added by  the designer or company. This helps me understand fashion. Then I try to create my own style by mixing and matching. Vibrant colors are fine, but my style is soft colors. Though my style is soft,  what I like to do is always add just one piece of which could even be an accessory in a vibrant color, by doing so I’ve just created my style. One single accessory can really add that particular touch. That is what I always look for and I love it.

What else do I do on a ShesDaily Spree Day?
I also look around for new shops or bottega’s which have opened in the city. I like to go there because you really find unique and original things and I’m all for unique and original.

What are my favorite places to shop?
H &M for Tops and Dresses, New York and Company for Pants and tops, Zara for Tops, Loft Ann Taylor for outfits and tops. For shoes I like Aereosoles, my shoes need to be comfortable, if my feet are comfortable I am comfortable and if I’m comfortable I am happy. But like I said if I walk into a store and something catches my eye and I truly like it I will buy it.

Is fashion my only mission on this day?
No, I also like to shop around and learn  more about the latest beauty trends.
I like Sephora, becuase when I walk in I see variety and I like variety. It allows me to look around and find new beauty products. I can also test the products and this is a plus because not only do I see the product, I can touch it, smell it, and even try it on allowing me to  test it and this helps in writing a review.
I also try to stay updated on the latest beauty and fashion trends, by visiting web sites, reading magazines such as Marie Claire, Vogue, Teen Vogue Lucky Magazine Etc… and from time to time attending events. I also like to sign up for mailing lists and subscribe to newsletters. Let’s not forget samples, I love them!
Mara

Thanks Mara and welcome to Wishpot!

a Wishpot wish list is a great way to window-shop!

Baby’s Got The Blues…

…And It’s Not So Bad!

Ok, fine.  I did it.  I gave in and finally made my first journey into the land of Polyvore.  It’s a rainy day today, so it was the perfect time to kick back and relax over a little fashion inspiration!

I had been feeling the Polyvore blues, not knowing how to create with it.  Now that I’ve put some time into it, I can’t help but be excited!   My goodness, this site could be almost as addicting as Wishpot!

While creating the board, I started to realize that I was drawn to things that, if you’d met me, you might not think were "me".  I learned that sometimes fashion brings out the best in us…or rather, we bring out the best in fashion.  It’s not about what’s trendy - it’s about what’s you

Here’s my little piece of self-creation, through fashion…

black and blue polyvore board created by its a jaime thing dot com

To find these items above so you can add them to your Wishpot lists, click HERE.  I had to add my shoes in there…I wear them all the time and LOVE them.  So, what do you think?  Can I join the cool club (a.k.a Polyvoreland)?

For more fashion and style inspiration, head on over to my blog at www.itsajaimething.com.  Thanks for reading, happy creating!

Lady you are a Polyvore genius! Looove it! Perfect for my wish list

Dee’s Mineral Make up Picks! No comments yet

A Natural Approach: Mineral Make Up for Every Budget

Make up isn’t supposed to change how you look, it’s supposed to accentuate your already beautiful features. I remember applying makeup in the mirror with my mother over my shoulder, picking out what was, in her opinion, “too much”. I used to think it a bit annoying then but I’m glad she did it now. I guess every girl dreams of being what they call a “natural beauty” and I’m not definitely one of them. One of my favorite skin care companies, philosophy, believes that having great skin is better than perfectly applied make up. I agree - the only problem is that I don’t have perfect skin. There’s days when I love my skin and days when I don’t - like every girl.

Nowadays mineral makeup has a large following due to it’s great benefits for the skin. Of course, there are some brands that are a bit pricey and in these times, everyone is looking to save a dollar - or two! I’ve rounded up some organic make up companies that fit into every price range!

clip_image002

philosophy canvas collection ($92.00)

A leading brand in skin-care, philosophy released it’s “the supernatural” collection awhile ago and I was eager to try the products since I’ve a big fan of their cleansing products. The Canvas Collection includes their the supernatural ‘airbrushed canvas’ SPF 15 foundation, the supernatural blush duo, the supernatural eyebrow pencil, big eyes mascara, and the supernatural lip gloss. All together, the package promises a radiant, natural look; as if you’ve just spent the entire day at the beach. What I really like is how easy it is to apply the foundation - which is perfect for on-the-go!

clip_image004

Bare Escentuals Get Started Kit ($60.00) (This one is going in my wish list)

I doubt I have to introduce this kit since everyone has heard about Bare Minerals! This kit has the foundation I use every day. I love the look Bare Minerals gives - without the weight that liquid or cream foundations have. It’s tres easy to apply and you can always adjust how deep you want the coverage. The kit comes with 2 SPF 15 foundations in 2 similar shades (depending on which kit you purchase), the All Over Face Color in Warmth, Mineral Veil, the Full Flawless Face brush, the Flawless Application Face Brush, Light Stroke brush, and a How-To DVD. Plus, if you purchase the kit from Sephora you get Prime Time Foundation Primer as well!

Available shades: Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, Dark, and Deep

clip_image002[6]

Pur Purfection Starter Kit ($35.00)

Winner of Allure’s Editor’s Choice Award, Pur Minerals has definitely put their name on the map with this collection. What makes this make up stand out is it’s best-selling 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup, a neat compact that acts as foundation, powder, concealer, and SPF protection all in ONE. Of course, it’s free of alcohol, talc, fragrances, preservatives, and all that other terrible stuff! Also included is Mineral Glow, a powder that gives you that “St. Bart’s glow” we all want, Universal Marble Powder in Pink, a powder that corrects, brightens, and highlights and is also versatile enough to be worn on eyes, lips, and cheeks, and finally, the Chisel Makeup Brush.

Available shades: Porcelain, Light, Blush Medium, Golden Medium, Tan, Medium Dark, Dark, Deep, Deeper, and Deepest

Dee you rock! Ha. Get it Minerals~ Rock.

Re-post Mixed Materials Dress Code Formal No comments yet

Mixed Materials

I love this post! Fashion trends are what defines one season from the next and this particular trend is so great for creating a rich style filled with texture!

mixed-materials

Sometimes trends in fashion keep us from being risky, but this time in fashion, designers are using and encouraging the use of varieties of fabrics and weights in one garment. The trend:Mixed Materials.

This Fall, we are going to see at least two, maybe three, different fabrics and weights used in everything from dresses, to shoes, to accessories, to household decorations. The idea is to create a statement by blending and popping different textures. It take a bit more thought, but could be a really fun way to make a look your own and to experiment with mixing and matching accessories, tops and bottoms, and dresses with your existing wardrobe.

Dress Code Formal 4918 Evening Dress

Don’t be timid: At these prices, you can feel good about experimenting with style.

Here’s a new shoe trend that I added to my Wishpot wish list. The Gladiator Sandal

Madeline Anni Gladiator Sandal Review

If you haven’t jumped on the gladiator sandal bandwagon yet, do it this season! Gladiator sandals look adorable with mini dresses, skirts and shorts, and they are comfortable for all-day wear.  The Madeline Anni Shoe ($39.00 at jbandme.com) is an adorable gladiator sandal in pewter. I’ve been wearing them for weekend shopping trips and I also wore them the other night with a flirty little springtime dress.  The adjustable double ankle strap is sexy and adds extra security. True to this season’s trends with its metallic sheen and strappy style, the Anni is perfect for adding a touch of effortless glam to your look.

What do you think of my newest pair of gladiator sandals?

I heart them from the bottom of their gladiator soles!! Thanks Anna.

Guest Blog Post {Dee’s Pretty Picks} No comments yet

Greeting on this Fabulous Friday!

My name is Dee and I’m one of the newest addition to WishPot’s Experts Team. Since you’ll be seeing my face around here a lot, I figured I’d give you a little back story. I’ve been a freelance journalist and blogger for about 3 years now and I specialize in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle scene. I’m a certifiable beauty-product junkie and slave to fashion - especially handbags. For my first edition of Dee’s Pretty Picks, I wanted to do something a bit personal so I’m letting all the ladies in on my daily beauty regimen. These are the items that I use very, very often; if not everyday.

When it comes to makeup, I jump all over the place with brands and formulas. Since I do a lot of reviews, companies send me samples and I end up finding new must-haves! If you’re unsure about trying a product, ALWAYS ask for samples at the counter. Beauty products are very hard to buy when you’re not sure of shade, consistency, etc.; so they almost always give samples out. Also, don’t be afraid to move outside of your usual make-up routine. Trying new shades of a product or a new item in general is always a good thing since you’ll never know what looks fabulous on you unless you try it on!

Ok, here we go..

clip_image001

Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer ($32.00): I love this product because during the winter, when my skin gets really dry, this stuff keeps it nourished! Also, it’s tinted so it’ll help even out skin tone and discoloration. It goes on smooth and it’s not too thick but it’s not too light either so a little goes a long way! At times, I just put this on and forget foundation and skip right to my setting powder.

clip_image002

the Balm Time Balm Concealer in Medium ($18.00): I LOVE how this concealer goes on. It’s so smooth and light but doesn’t slack when it comes to coverage. It’s tiny and has a little travel sponge for on-the-go application.

clip_image003

Coastal Scents Diva Defense Primer ($14.95): Since I use Bare Minerals Foundation everyday, I wanted to find a mineral-based primer. A lot of women, tend to skip primer but it’s a good idea if you want your foundation and makeup to last longer. An extra two minutes takes your makeup a long way! This primer goes on lightweight and really sets my skin for foundation. Since I use very little

everyday, this lasts a lifetime!

clip_image004

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($17.00): Another primer but for eyeshadow this time! This keeps my eyeshadow on for a whole day without creasing or color loss! It’s comes in a great little bottle with a wand. The nude shade is pretty compatible with most skin tones. Another great alternative are MAC’s Paint Pots, I use Soft Ochre since it has that nude/yellow hue.

clip_image005

Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Foundation ($25.00): I’m sure you’ve heard a lot about this foundation and I’m a huge fan of it. During the winter, I tend to use a little liquid foundation underneath the Bare Minerals but that’s only because my skin dries out easily. For the rest of the time, this is perfect for ladies who don’t want anything too heavy that still gives an ample amount of coverage. Plus, it’s SPF15 so it gives you that extra protection. Once again, a little goes a long way so you don’t need too much for it to work. This brings out my natural features and just highlights them - it’s perfect! You don’t want to look like a clown!

clip_image006

Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil ($19.00): This translucent powder is a great setting powder that brings out a truly luminous and polished look to your face. Buff it on top of the Bare Minerals foundation for extra, extra staying power. The Mineral Veil also absorbs oil and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and pores without any build up since it’s made without parabens, sulfates, synethetic dyes and all that other junk!

clip_image007

Stila Eye Shadow Trio in Baked ($28.00): Since I’m tan, I love going with neutral colors for everyday. This trio has great shades for brow, crease, and lid - all in one. It’s glam enough for everyday use without looking like too much.

clip_image008

Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eyeliner Pen ($7.99): I’m constantly battling with liquid eyeliner because I honestly, do not have the patience for it. Usually, I use MAC’s TechnaKohl Eyeliner in Graph Black but this liquid eyeliner has got me hooked. It’s built like a pen with a great felt tip so it makes it extra easy to apply. As for the formula, it stayed on the entire work day for me without smearing or smudging.

clip_image010

NARS Blush in Orgasm ($25.00): Yes, another item that’s a part of the Best of Sephora collection. This blush has a following that’s quite huge because it looks good on literally any skin tone! I also use Maybelline’s Dream Matte Mousse in Rose Petal which is really lightweight and has a beautiful shimmery tone when it settles. Don’t worry though, it’s not over kill with the shimmer. It really brings out your cheek bones!

clip_image011

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler ($19.00): I WILL NOT leave the house without this in my purse. It’s my favorite eye lash curler and it works magic. I curl before mascara and after and it makes a huge difference since my lashes are definitely not as long and voluminous as I want them to be.

clip_image012

Bourjois Coup de Theatre False Lash Illusion - Duo Mascara ($9.00): This mascara has a great double-end that includes their mascara and lengthening MicroFibers. When used together, this product does absolute wonders for my eyelashes! I also use Maybelline XXL Volume + Length Mascara which also includes MicroFibers!

clip_image013

Stila Lip Glaze in Vanilla ($22.00): I’m a huge fan of the nude lip so this is the gloss that’s always in my purse or pocket. It’s easy to apply and has a great consistency - not too sticky, not too thick. Plus the color is gorgeous - it’s like a pearlescent nude.

clip_image015

Huge Lips, Skinny Hips in Lychee Martini ($20.00): This is becoming one of my favorite products! It’s made by Purple Lab NYC and it’s a revolutionary gloss that not only plumps your lips but also suppresses your appetite using natural extracts of Hoodia Gordoni. I love that the lip plumper doesn’t sting like other ones and the gloss itself smells like CANDY! You can find it all Space.NK and Scoop stores!

clip_image016

Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder ($59.00): Smashbox has a hit when it comes to Halo. This powder visibly made my skin look flawless. Of course, I had on Bare Minerals underneath but it made my skin just pop by covering any visible blemishes! This is now my go-to compact for on the go, I love it!

I think that covers it all! It looks like a lot but it’s not! I try not to put too much on my face and just enhance my natural features. Of course, for a big occasion - feel free to go nuts with things but this a great everyday look.

All these products can be found on my Wish Pot list: The Essentials: War Paint Edition.

See ya next Friday!

Cheers to the weekend!

Thanks Dee! And I gotta get me some huge lips skinny hips. And I also vouch that a mascara primer applied before mascara is wow for lashes! I once heard a makeup artist say that a mascara primer is like a push-up bra but for your eye lashes. lol
