Wish List: How to Buy a Watch

The watch is an intergral part in any man’s wardrobe. Having the right watch to wear in situations can class up any outfit. But many men and women don’t actually know much about watches themselves. With a typical high quality watch running at around $2500 dollars it’s pretty important to know what you’re spending your money on. When you find that perfect watch and add it to your wishlist, you want to make sure it’s the right one for you and will work in every situation you need it to. Everyone knows a Rolex is a great time piece, but here are five watch terms that will make you sound like an industry pro.

1. Complication: A complication is anything a watch can do other than timekeeping, such as a calendar or a stop-watch.

2. Movement: All the tiny pieces inside the watch that make it run correctly

3. Quartz: A movement powered by a battery that is regulated by the oscillations of a quartz crystal. This is much more accurate than other watches, but also more expensive

4. Self-Winding: A type of watch containing a rotor on a pivot that automatically winds itself with the daily movements of the person wearing it.

5. Water-Resistant: Most watches say water-resistant, but that doesn’t mean it’s meant to be worn in the water. Only shower with it on if it says water-resistant for up to 100 meters to be safe.

You’ll definitly need a watch for different situations since going to the office requires a different style and design than going for a hike. Here are some good ideas for different watches that are all classics and can work in basically any situation.
