May 6th National Teacher Day

On the NEA site I found this fun idea,

"On National Teacher Day, thousands of communities will take time out to honor their local educators and acknowledge the contributions they make to our lives. Together with the Parent Teacher Association, NEA is collecting thousands of teacher thank you cards and combining them into a larger-than-life mural. Be a part of this one-of-a-kind project! I an a fan of this idea. Send a card to your teacher. I like the pretty and personalized set of teacher appreciation cards I found at Horchow. Of course any fun piece of paper will do. Who doesn't have a teacher to thank?

Cinco de Mayo Margarita Glasses

 

Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May is a day to celebrate Mexican culture. It commemorates the day 2000 Mexican peasants defeated 6000 of Napoleon's French soldiers. It is a day of dancing, drinking and sombrero wearing! And so bring out the Margarita glasses! Especially these- I have an obsession with Blue and these beautiful blue margarita glass are a twist on the traditional sombrero margarita glass. I found them at Crate and Barrel. So why not? Grab your margarita glass, sombrero, and dancing shoes and celebrate Cinco de Mayo in style!

the perfect mother's day bouquet

I don't like this idea I love it! On behalf of all the mother's out there who will undoubtedly get a bouquet of flower's for mother's day- may I suggest this bouquet of flowers instead. It doesn't need watering and it is guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Ok I am not going to even pretend I had heard of this holiday. And All of the research I did on it revolved around the fact that it originated as a Pagan holiday dealing mainly with the expression of free love which was not very popular with Puritans and so somewhere along the line kinda went out of style in the US. Despite this it is still a popular holiday in most of Europe and so why not bring a little may day cheer back home. I found this on school of the seasons and it is all about how to celebrate May Day,

"This is a time for giving gifts. Gather flowers with special messages for friends and relatives. Make up your own explanation of the meaning of each flower and give it along with the bouquet. For friends at a distance, send pressed flowers or May Day cards or packets of flower seeds. Other appropriate gifts including perfume, incense, candied flower petals, herbs, sachets and artificial flowers.

If you can, stay up all night, preferably outdoors. And you can run around, under cover of darkness, leaving May baskets of flowers on doorsteps.

On the first of May, wear your most colorful clothes or dress all in green (the color of the fairies). Consider wearing a flower in your hair.

Make May wine by flavoring wine with herbs, berries, fruits or flowers. The traditional May wine is white wine flavored with sweet woodruff (soak the sprigs of woodruff in the wine for only 15 minutes or so to flavor the wine). If you don't drink alcohol, use the same technique to flavor milk or apple juice. Drink a toast to the glory of May. You might want to use this in a love ritual."

I am not too sure about following all of that but who doesn't love flowers. I'd skip the picking and go instead for the planting. :) happy may day

This little dish is the perfect size for jewelry, keys, soap, or just like that!  And I am a fan of little things. Especially little gestures that let mom know how much she means. A great little gift for mother's day or all year round.

Arbor Day- Plant a Tree day

Sunday April 27th is a day where you celebrate and care for trees. I love trees. I grew up in the suburbs and was fortunate enough to be surrounded by trees. I can remember the giant weeping willow in my backyard. I was in awe of its sheer size.

Arbor day Foundation is a site where you buy trees and all things tree online. Help celebrate the beauty and magic of trees and add a tree to your wishlist. Participate in Arbor day and give a little back to the planet.

Wishpot!

Not too long ago I was asked to be a wedding expert on Wishpot.com and I have to admit, I wanted to try it out before I actually posted about it here. To fill you in, Wishpot is basically a site that allows you to create registries, wish, and gift lists with anything you find on the web. It completely gets my thumbs up! I have been having a blast on the site and so far I've created three different wish lists: the Green Kitchen Registry, Eco Gifts to Help Relax & Revitalize, and Misc. Stuff that is just plain cool! The one problem with this site is that I just keep finding more stuff I want! For you brides out there, it's really a great way to create a registry without being limited to just a few stores.
