May 6th National Teacher Day No comments yet

Horchow Personalized Teacher Cards

On the NEA site I found this fun idea,

“On National Teacher Day, thousands of communities will take time out to honor their local educators and acknowledge the contributions they make to our lives. Together with the Parent Teacher Association, NEA is collecting thousands of teacher thank you cards and combining them into a larger-than-life mural. Be a part of this one-of-a-kind project! Visit www.teacherthankyoucard.org and add your card.”

I an a fan of this idea. Send a card to your teacher. I like the pretty and personalized set of teacher appreciation cards I found at Horchow. Of course any fun piece of paper will do. Who doesn’t have a teacher to thank?

May day may day No comments yet

Ok I am not going to even pretend I had heard of this holiday. And All of the research I did on it revolved around the fact that it originated as a Pagan holiday dealing mainly with the expression of free love which was not very popular with Puritans and so somewhere along the line kinda went out of style in the US. Despite this it is still a popular holiday in most of Europe and so why not bring a little may day cheer back home. I found this on school of the seasons and it is all about how to celebrate May Day,

“This is a time for giving gifts. Gather flowers with special messages for friends and relatives. Make up your own explanation of the meaning of each flower and give it along with the bouquet. For friends at a distance, send pressed flowers or May Day cards or packets of flower seeds. Other appropriate gifts including perfume, incense, candied flower petals, herbs, sachets and artificial flowers.

If you can, stay up all night, preferably outdoors. And you can run around, under cover of darkness, leaving May baskets of flowers on doorsteps.

On the first of May, wear your most colorful clothes or dress all in green (the color of the fairies). Consider wearing a flower in your hair.

Make May wine by flavoring wine with herbs, berries, fruits or flowers. The traditional May wine is white wine flavored with sweet woodruff (soak the sprigs of woodruff in the wine for only 15 minutes or so to flavor the wine). If you don’t drink alcohol, use the same technique to flavor milk or apple juice. Drink a toast to the glory of May. You might want to use this in a love ritual.”

I am not too sure about following all of that but who doesn’t love flowers. I’d skip the picking and go instead for the planting. :) happy may day

I love this mini fridge. I love the pattern and the French design and most of all I love that it plugs into a cigarette lighter and will keep six drinks cold. Great for the office, your room, your car. Take it anywhere you go. It’s from Wishingfish.  gift girl :)

cry and dry your tears No comments yet

I found this break-up handkerchief on the Rare Bird Finds blog. I can’t believe this actually exists! I am not sure if it is sheer genius or utter cruelty. A break-up hanky! For all of those out there who hate breaking up well now you don’t need to. Purchase this hanky and you are all set. No more agonizing about trying to get the words out.

Rare Bird has this to say, ” Here’s a creative way to break-up with someone - give them a break-up handkerchief.  It’s a cotton handkerchief that has a break-up note printed on it.  It even comes in an envelope.  A nice courtesy on your part for when the tears flow.”
