It’s a Jaime Thing Friday: She’s got the Look…

________________________________________________________________________

She’s Got The Look…

…And So Can You, Even Without Spending A Fortune!

You’ve either heard it or you’ve said it yourself - the phrase, “I’m a champagne girl bride on a beer budget!”.  Wedding dresses can get crazy expensive, as we all know, however you can still achieve that fabulous runway look even on a tight budget.  You just have to know how to shop!  I’ve started the shopping trip for us, but it’s no fun shopping alone - so pick up the pace, picante - grab a friend or a cup of coffee and let’s get to it!

Here’s what Spring 2009 bridal trends I’ve personally fallen in love with and found so far…I hope you like them!

1. The look: Oscar de la Renta - The look for less: Justin Alexander

2. The look: Roberto Cavalli Spring 2009 for Milan Fashion Week - The look for less: Christina Wu

3. The look: Roberto Cavalli Spring 2009 for Milan Fashion Week - The look for less: Bellissima Couture

4. The look:  St. Pucchi Spring 2009 - The look for less:  Jasmine Couture

5. The look:  Romona Keveza - The look for less:  Alix & Kelly

Thoughts?  One of the styles normally wouldn’t be my taste, but for some reason I was drawn to it.  Can you guess which one?  If you guessed #4, you’re right!  What do YOU think about it?  That’s one very important thing to remember when looking for and trying on dresses - what YOU think, not what anyone else thinks.  We all have our style and at the end of the day, choose what best fits you.  What makes YOU feel comfortable.

Set a budget, stick to it and take your time dress shopping, if possible.  You may get excited over a gorgeous dress at the first store you visit, but later realize the 15th store you visit actually has the one that makes you change your mind.  It’s so easy to fall in “lust” with one of the first few dresses you try on, but always remember - love over lust!  When you fall in love with “the one”, you’ll know.

Don’t try on dresses that are outside of your budget - it might get too tempting.  If you happen to see one that is outside of your budget but you love the style, shop around!  Look in different stores, magazines and online.  If you do your research, I bet you’ll find a similar style (like I did with the ones above) for a lot less money.

With the money you save on your dress, you’ll have extra to either put in the bank, to spend on a fabulous DJ to keep your party going all night long, or to spend on that amazing photographer you never thought you’d be able to afford because you thought your dress would cost a fortune!  Imagine the possibilities.  On that note, happy shopping and happy saving!

It’s a Jaime Thing Friday… Hurricane Ike, Take a Hike

…We’d Much Rather See A Hurricane As A Centerpiece, Not A Storm!

Trying to find the perfect table centerpieces for your reception?  Use hurricanes!  I’ve shopped around to find you a selection of hurricanes in all different shapes, sizes and colors.  Best part?  They’re each fabulously priced under $50.00, which is a lot less expensive than costly floral arrangements.  Flowers are lovely, but if you’re looking to save money, these make a wonderful alternative!

Get creative.  Depending on which kind you choose, there are several options to dress them up:

With candles inside, the mosaic or decorative hurricanes would allow light to dance on the tables in the shape of the design on the hurricane, setting a romantic ambiance.

Use the clear ones to place other objects inside, such as twigs, grass, rocks, or marbles.  If you still crave flowers, place 1-3 stems inside each clear hurricane,  maybe just cutting the stems short enough so the flowers aren’t sticking out of the hurricane, but rather being displayed inside of the hurricane.

Why not turn some of them upside down?  By doing so, you can create an unusual but creative look, where instead of placing a pillar candle inside, you could place it on top once it’s turned over.  Or, before you place the candle on top, why not put other objects underneath the glass once it’s turned over, to personalize it even more!

Place your hurricane inside the ring of a wreath, or combine them together in different heights using either short and taller versions if they’re available, or by placing sturdy boxes under fabric to add height yourself.  If you’re looking to really save money, perhaps you could just do every other table - and then simply use tea lights or votives on the other tables.  There are so many ideas, get creative and have fun with it!

What I love most about the idea is that after the wedding is over, you could recycle the hurricanes by giving them away to close friends or family at the end of the night, or if you have enough, give them away as a bonus gift to your bridal party members.  No waste there…and what a special way for them to always remember your day by!

Love these?  I’ve added the majority of them to my Wishpot lists, which you can view by clicking HERE, so you can easily add them to your own Wishpot registries.  If you haven’t signed up for a Wishpot registry yet, what are you waiting for?  Click HERE to do so now, but careful, it’s addicting!  Do you have other ideas for using hurricanes as centerpieces, if so, we’d love to hear!

Top Row L-R: Nina Hurricanes from Crate & Barrel, Gorham “Rose Serenade” from Macy’s, Crackle Glass Hurricane from Target, Facets Hurricane from Mikasa.

It"s a Jaime Thing Friday: Black,White & Red Wedding Shower

A Black, White & Red Wedding Shower…

…With Touches Of Stylish Damask!

Next month I am hosting a wedding shower for my awesome brother-in-law and his beautiful fiance.  I can’t wait until their wedding is finally here, it’s going to seriously rock the boat!  They are one very cool couple and I’m very blessed to call them family.

This week, I’ve decided to share with you the ideas I’m thinking of for their wedding shower.  Their wedding colors are black, burgundy and ivory.  Since I wanted to play off of that theme, but still make it different, I thought I’d create a black, red and white shower theme with (yes, you called it) - touches of damask!

This is one fun couple we’re dealing with here, so we’re making it stylish but keeping it cool.  Since the groom loves Portillo’s, we’ll be catering in Portillo’s famous Italian beef and Italian sausage (if you haven’t been to Chicago yet, what are you waiting for?  You’ll LOVE Portillo’s, it’s a favorite around here).

For drinks, we’ll stick to our color theme of course!  Perhaps we’ll serve red punch, kiddy cocktails, cosmopolitans, red and white wine and maybe even sangria if I can find a good recipe (anyone?).

The dessert bar will open with super yummy treats such as red fruit (strawberries, cherries, raspberries) dipped in chocolate or served with whipped cream, Oreo cookies, Oreo Truffles, Twizzlers, white chocolate covered pretzel sticks, and whatever other sweets I can think of.  Think sweets for the sweets!

Does anyone else have any other creative ideas?  Wish me luck, I’ve got lots of planning to do.  You know as soon as the shower is over, I’ll be sure to post pictures on my BLOG, so keep checking back!  For now, enjoy the lovely little pieces of inspiration that have been stuck in my head all week…

Third Row - Flowers by Flowers On Mars, Cosmopolitans from my cousin’s bachelorette party pictures (cheers!), Favors by Burdick Chocolate, Oreo Truffles by Bakerella!

Thanks for reading!  Hope you enjoyed the inspiration.  If you’re looking for more black, white, red or damask wedding inspiration, head on over to my wedding blog, “It’s A Jaime Thing” - I’ve got lots of fun things for you to see in that theme.  Cheers!  -Jaime

Invitations created by Jaime are stunning! Way to go girl. I love the idea and I can’t wait to see the pictures. As a fun twist you could ask the guests to wear only red black and white! Anyone else got any red black and white ideas?

  1. The color scheme is unique. Very pretty and very bold.

  2. I LOVE THIS IDEA!! People say I’m crazy for planning a wedding with black! I was so happy when I found this website and was able to give a visual of what I was thinking! it’s so important to be different and unique and I really want something funcky and memorable!

  3. Thank you both for your kind comments!

Davina, I’m so happy I could help you with your vision for your wedding…I totally understand where you’re coming from. Our wedding was actually a black and white wedding, and people looked at me like I was nuts too. But don’t they know that black is the new wedding? Such as pink is the new black? Ok that sounded silly but you know what I mean…lol. Black is hot right now - not just now, but always - as it’s such a classic color. Coco Chanel invented the “little black dress”, I believe, and since it’s remained popular and loved each year - so why not use it in your wedding?! :) Have FUN with it. It’s YOUR wedding. Make it very truly yours.

    Cheers and congratulations!
    -Jaime
