29. January 2009 at 10:53 am :
How convenient I might need that magazine to help plan my wedding this year.
29. January 2009 at 10:54 am :
We are planning on having a cupcake tree. Each layer will be a different flavor of cake (chocolate w/ chocolate ganache filling, vanilla with strawberries, passionfruit and 2 other flavors, tbd). The top layer will be an actual 5″ or 6″ round cake decorated with a few hydrangea sprigs for us to cut and then to save for our first anniversary. Each cupcake will be decorated with a single hydrangea flower in different colors. My fiance’s sister is a pastry chef, and she has offered to make the cake for us, so it will be fantastic!

I love this blog!! I use the blogroll all the time!
29. January 2009 at 10:55 am :
My cake will have sugar acorns on it to fit with my acorn motif.
29. January 2009 at 10:55 am :
We are very much caught up in the cupcake trend! Our cupcake tier will include three tiers of carrot, spice and chocolate cupcakes topped with a mini cake on the top, for us to cut into. Our cupcakes will be topped with orange, pink and purple frosting with little white flowers on top.
29. January 2009 at 10:57 am :
Definitely cupcakes - made by my maid of honor’s mom, haven’t decided on the flavor yet, but it will be a relatively simple but very pretty design with our wedding colors involved (blue, green) This is why I need the real simple, I need more help planning! We are also going to have a cake for cutting - I’m hoping to make this a carvel ice cream cake because they are my absolute favorite!
29. January 2009 at 10:57 am :
Well, I want a Victorian style cake… a cream color rather than white, with Victorian detailing. I think its great when you can find a detail that matches your dress.
Also, Im having a separate reception during the summer, So i was thinking of trying the cupcake tier for that. I think they make them so beautiful, and you can get the frosting slightly sprayed pink or another color to make it immediate a flower.
29. January 2009 at 10:58 am :
We’re having multiple desserts and cake. There will be chocolate covered strawberries, mini creme brulees, coconut macaroons, and multiple small checkerboard torte cakes covered with ganache and topped with beautiful greenery, and it’s all coming VERY SOON! Feb 7!
29. January 2009 at 10:58 am :
What a neat contest, thanks wishpot! I’m having a fairy wedding cake. A beautiful light blue three tired masterpiece. Between the top and middle layer is a sparking forest of fondant covered pillars shaped like gnarled trees. The best part for us is our cake topper. My fiance wanted a tin soldier and I wanted a fairy, would you believe I found a sweet little fairy kissing a tin soldier? Scattered about the various layers are beautiful butterfly fairies from the same collection. We’ll also be adding assorted flora from my bouquet selections. I can’t wait to see it, only 52 days to go!

Wishpot is the best - I just hope my guests can figure out how to find my registry and order from there, and know to mark the item as purchased, as it doesn’t automatically mark the item as purchased on the registry.
All of our favorite things are on Wishpot!
29. January 2009 at 11:02 am :
We have decided to make a tree-like stand to hold the cakes. We will create it to hold as many cakes as we need to accommodate our guests (which is looking to be about 4 or 5 cakes). The cakes will be round and about the size of a pie pan. Each cake will be on a different level and the top one will be the one we cut. We have not yet decided what flavor of cakes we will have, but they will each be different. We also have not yet decided on how they will be decorated, but we are thinking about incorporating leaves since it is a September wedding. We are very excited about figuring out all the details for the cakes, especially the flavors!

Nice, I have been meaning to buy one of these. Thanks!

We are having a beach wedding this July 11th! The wedding will be outside, with the reception at the same location in this gorgeous vintage beach house. I’m also a photographer and we have come up with many unique ways to create our custom wedding experience! As for our cake - we are having many cakes! A variety to fit everyone’s taste, one of the cakes is a cheese cake with fresh fruit on top - I have seen this done many times as I’m sure you have - this one is gorgeous. All of our cakes are from this little shop called Food Stuffs - each one is beautiful in it’s own way. We have one cake that is all white and will be topped with our cake topper. Each of the cakes will sit on vintage cake plates, all different sizes, colors and looks - that fit the style and colors of our wedding.

I love all the Real Simple magazines, they have great ideas and tips for organizing your life. Now I am extra excited to read their Real Simple Weddings!
29. January 2009 at 11:08 am :
We are going with a simple cake with buttercream frosting… I’m not a fan of fondant cakes and want ours too look a little on the rustic side. Since I’m all about the DIY, I may just make our cake topper!
29. January 2009 at 11:09 am :
We haven’t decided which cake to pursue yet, but we were thinking of having a dessert bar instead of having cake.
29. January 2009 at 11:13 am :
My cake is being done by Cheryl Day of Back in the Day Bakery in Savannah, GA. She is such a sweet lady (no pun intended) and I am entrusting her to design it as she sees fit. She describes the look of her cakes as organic… and let me tell you, I dream about how good they are! Ever since we were in town and tasted her cakes and cupcakes we have been craving more!
29. January 2009 at 11:13 am :
I’m so excited about our wedding cake (or cakes). We’re getting cupcakes from a local place called Trophy Cupcakes. these little bits of heaven make me drool every time I think about them, and i’m sooo glad I get to eat them on my wedding day! Now I just need inspiration for how they’re going to look!
29. January 2009 at 11:15 am :
We’ll be having a tiered cake butter cream frosted cake. I like alternating patterns on each tier, I’m thinking a quilted pattern and a ribbon wrap.
29. January 2009 at 11:18 am :
I am strongly leaning towards a cupcake tier as it seems so many other people are but I really hate the idea of the whole cutting the cake and feeding it to each other tradition. Since are wedding is small (~50 people) we are going to have a tree of beautifully decorated cupcakes in different flavors each with a flower on them. Our wedding isnt until March of 2010 so really all of our planning is in the very beginning stages.
29. January 2009 at 11:18 am :
We’re having my gourmet chef aunts make us cupcakes topped with chocolate dipped cherries! Yay, I’m so excited!
29. January 2009 at 11:23 am :
I’m not a fan of cake, so am still debating what to do. Cupcakes seem so trendy, I’m afraid I’ll look back in 20 years and regret jumping on the bandwagon.
29. January 2009 at 11:31 am :
I am having a 4 tiered square white fondant cake with black satin trim and silver hearts adorning the top. Each layer of the cake will be a different flavor starting with red velvet and chocolate mousse filling, then pink champagne (as it’s my fiancé’s favorite
) and then the 3rd layer will be a vanilla bean cake with amaretto filling. The top layer will be white chocolate and strawberry filling. It looks pretty simple from the outside but the inside is to die for!!!
29. January 2009 at 11:41 am :
I am actually planning to have a small cake for my wedding day (traditional cutting) and petite sweets available for all our guests. They are SO much fun!! These were actually done by Sugar and Spice and… who I plan to work with. Mmmm… I can’t wait!

Chris and I really want a simple wedding that is super classy, and also green. We want a cake that is totally edible (no flowers or rhinestones). We haven’t decided what cake we want yet- but would love to look through Real Simple to get some ideas.

I am trying to play a simple wedding that wont break our small pockets. Looking for creative ways to make my day beautiful. I would love to win this.

There is a great donut shop that we love. The icing happens to be pink too. We are hoping to make a tierd donut cake.
If that doesn’t happen, I’m hoping to make a “fruit garden”. You cut flower shapes out of friut and put them on sticks for the stems. Take all the “flowers and stick them into a watermellon basket.
29. January 2009 at 12:56 pm :
A dear friend of ours has offered to make our cake, so it won’t be a tower of flowers or fondant covered. We were thinking of tiramisu or a trifle or something else a little out of the ordinary, but new ideas are always welcomed!
29. January 2009 at 1:32 pm :
My fiance and I are both backpackers/hikers/mountaineers, and we are having a Colorado mountain wedding. For a cake topper, I bought a pair of baby size hiking boots on eBay! Not only will they be an adorable and theme-appropriate cake-topper, I hope to get dual usage out of them when Junior (or Junior-ette) comes along! :o)
29. January 2009 at 2:02 pm :
We’re having a backyard wedding (which just happens to be on a lake!) Our wedding is very family-centric - my cousin is marrying us, we’re borrowing my sister-in-law (to be)’s iPod, my uncle’s speakers, and are picking flowers from my mothers garden for the bouquets…you get the point.
To keep it simple, we’re having a taco bar for the food…..and we also wanted to keep the “cake” simple. After much thought, I realized the dessert that would epitomize our wedding was s’mores. This will also be in a “bar” type fashion - with different recipes to try and all sorts of different toppings!
29. January 2009 at 2:07 pm :
Great contest! I’m going to post it on my blog to let readers know. Hope I win though!!
29. January 2009 at 2:12 pm :
Great contest & great blog!!! I hope I win..would love to share this with a new bride!
29. January 2009 at 2:16 pm :
This is such a great contest. My favorite magazine and weddings! Who doesn’t love them both? My husbands cake was amazing. I loved it ten times more than mine. HIs cake was blue and brown (favorite colors) and it had anchors and tuxedo strawberries. He recently joined the navy so the anchors were great. It was beautiful, intricate, and amazing. My cake was white with scrolls in white all around the cake. It was three tiered and each tier had pink gerber daisies. The best part is that my grandmother made it so it really was very special to me!
29. January 2009 at 2:35 pm :
This is my first stop over here and I love it! I would love to win!!
29. January 2009 at 3:02 pm :
I LOVE Real Simply and subscribe to it. And I love the cake shown here! We are going a little different–we are going to have real edible flowers on our cake, ones that are dipped in sugar. The cake is a basic three-tier with climbing vines. We are so lucky that a pastry chef from the Bellagio moved back to Tucson to raise his family, and that we’ve met up with him when his business is pretty new and the prices are great.
29. January 2009 at 3:32 pm :
We are having a three tier cake! The frosting is going to be a lilac colored, vanilla butter cream cake with decorative, pale green foliage in fondant. We are having a beautiful outdoor spring wedding! One layer of the cake is going to be raspberry with cream cheese filling and the other two layers are going to be dense chocolate cake with mocha filling. Yum!
29. January 2009 at 4:08 pm :
When I got married, I decided to be pretty conservative and traditional with my cake. My goal was simple and elegant, just like Real Simple magazine. I love all of the ideas they have, and with weddings, I can’t wait to see what they come up with…thanks for the contest!
29. January 2009 at 4:32 pm :
We’ll be getting our amazingly delicious cakes from the same local bakery that provided my first 18 or so birthday cakes!

29. January 2009 at 7:02 pm :
We are going with a beach themed wedding. I was surfing the net and found a really cute, simple cake. Its a small 3 tier with various sea shells. It is so adorable and so us! The rest of the wedding is really simple too. I am having such a blast planning our wedding. I really cant wait to be his wife!
29. January 2009 at 7:17 pm :
wow that cake is gorgeous!
29. January 2009 at 7:54 pm :
I love the idea of a table of homemade cakes and desserts - a buffet of favorite family recipes!
29. January 2009 at 8:48 pm :
We are thinking of a three tier cake with sky blue icing and a lace work design on the top, with white daisys going down one side in a cascade. Then having the added touch of colorful silk butterflies added here and there as if they had just gently landed.
29. January 2009 at 9:12 pm :
I love my cake…and eating it too. Most wedding cakes seem soo sweet and store bought tasting that we decided to have a local lady, who is known for her excellent cooking, and asked her. She was totally reasonable in price and I got more than I would have gotten from a store/bakery. I found pictures in magazines and combined the look with my favorite sweets…german chocolate cake with layers of blackberry filling. Three tiered cake covered in white whipped frosting with piped dark chocolate icing details. I gave all the pics and descriptions to her and perfecto!!!
30. January 2009 at 6:26 am :
We haven’t started planning yet but we’re both pretty classic type of people. I saw a cake I really like that was simply three cakes stacked in graduated sizes and with a poem writing in icing around it. He wrote a poem about me when we first met so I’d like to use that.
30. January 2009 at 9:12 am :
I love wedding cakes…every time I go to any of my friends weddings the wedding cake is the first thing I want to see at the reception. It always amazes me that there are individuals who are able to create these spectacular desserts.
30. January 2009 at 1:07 pm :
I’m totally doing the cupcake thing too! My sister has celiacs so that way she can have her very own glutton free cupcake!
30. January 2009 at 2:05 pm :
Oh, I LOVE Real Simple! Thank you for the opportunity for this giveaway! So exciting!!
30. January 2009 at 7:16 pm :
How exciting, ideas, fun wedding stuff and a chance for a giveaway!
31. January 2009 at 9:22 pm :
We are planning on having a three tiered off white fondant with green leaves as accents + we will have around 60 cupcakes from the same bakery in lieu of a grooms cake
1. February 2009 at 2:21 am :
We are planning on doing a variety of homemade fruit pie, fruit tart and some cake. It’ll be like the display window of a bakery…yummm!
Anyhow, I loved the first issue of Real Simple Weddings, and I can’t wait to see the new one!
1. February 2009 at 2:29 pm :
a cake buffet!
2. February 2009 at 4:59 am :
I’m planning simple…not simple in the 3 tier cake covered in fondant sort of way, but simple in the slap some delicious frosting on a delicious cake & we are good to go sort of way! The taste is quite a bit more important to me than aesthetics! Still working on flavors…
2. February 2009 at 9:59 am :
We’re going very simple - none of our guests are huge cake fans, so we’re having the chef make us a small cake for the cake cutting and the guests are having an hors d’oeuvres style dessert selection. Saves money and the guests get a wider selection…
2. February 2009 at 1:15 pm :
The cupcake idea is so cute but we are going with a traditional buttercream cake — delicious!
3. February 2009 at 1:43 pm :
we are having a small wedding cake and a grooms cake so that we can have 2 falvors as well as buckeyes for people who do not want cake.
