Guest Blog Post Ethical Weddings Monday {A wedding dress to wear again}
A wedding dress I can wear again…
What a difference a few credit crunchy months make. In the words of the fashion thermometer: going down – disposable style, going up – wear it again, Sam!
Gung ho greenies are rejoicing as formerly thrift-free fashionistas save last season’s slacks from landfill for a second life at the clothes swap party. The make do and mend crew are the new gurus of recession chic, stitchin’ ‘n’ bitchin’ while the planet heals.
But for me, confirmation that the conscious shopper has arrived came in the frivolous form of The Times Style magazine. Flicking to the reader questions, I found this:
‘I’m getting married in May and am looking for a dress that is suitably bridal without being a wedding dress – ideally, I want one that I can wear again. My budget is about £700. What would you advise?’
The ultimate one-wear item is finally up for fashion debate. So to keep ‘wear again’ going up, I’ve done a little digging for the best ethical threads to sport down the aisle… or down the allotment – most for considerably less than £700!
Forties Garden Dress
This cute little vintage number is made from cream hemp and tencel. Limited edition and made to order, you’d better snap this up quickly!
Halter neck dress from Get Cutie
An elegant, feminine gown in a show-stopping print of your choice from the quirky Brighton boutique, Get Cutie.
Vintage dress in white
I love the simplicity of this flowing vintage gown that would work for a beach wedding or a beach party. It’s also a bargain at just £39.99.
Make a splash in this fabulous party dress by Debbi Little – made from parachute silk. Choose your colour and off you go… the star of the aisle or the belle of the ball!
Vintage wedding dress company
I adore the dresses in this collection – they’re so individual they’re definitely for the bride who wants something a bit different. Sadly, they’re not available online – you’ll have to pop into their London shop to find the one that’s absolutely you…
Motasem
With options in organic silk, Motasem prides itself on creating cocktail style dresses to wear again and again. The blue trim on this gown takes it beyond bridal…

Happy planning!

Simply Stunning lady! The cute little garden vintage dress is so awesome. I love it and would wear it again and again and again.

I love this idea! 60 years ago and beyond, girls would wear the best dress in their closet, it was obviously going to be worn again. The white wedding dress is really only about 100 or so years old. Love color, style etc… of going beyond the white wedding gown! Be original!

Thanks Martha! Have you worked with any brides who’ve gone down the less conventional route? Would be great to see some pics! Katie
