Ethical bridalwear bonanza

Sob, the show (Eco Chic Wedding & Home) is over. But we’re still buzzing about the bridalwear. So now the pics are in (courtesy of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens), I thought we’d take a closer look at those dazzling dresses.

Claire Ingram at Once Worn with Love has chosen her pre-loved bridalwear collection with care. After falling in love with a once-worn wedding dress for her own wedding, she knows what she’s looking for. Gowns must light up Claire’s fashion-forward eye to count among the favoured few.

Dress designer, Julie Dutton, hates waste. Such is her hatred for the ‘w’ word, that for the Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show, she rounded up all the fabric scraps in her studio and - in true Cinderella style – transformed them into a gorgeous wedding gown with a wave of her wand (or sewing machine but that’s not quite such a romantic image). The result: the eco gown ‘Remnanta’, a dress that would give any girl reason to go to the ball… husband or not!

Another one in the business of transformations is up-and-upcycling company, Dirty Pretty. They’ll take your unwanted net curtains, tablecloths and dishcloths, and before you can say ‘Abracadaaa – that was my gran’s!’ will magic them into a mini dress and chichi jacket. The sixties style collection would suit a cheeky wedding guest – or even a daring mother-of-the-bride…

Motasem’s wear-again cocktail style dresses slunk up the catwalk in understated style. Their simplicity is alluring – and it is easy to see why these same gowns graced the red carpet for the recent ‘Twilight’ premiere.

And to finish, a special treat. Designer, Tammam could not make it to the show but you can sample her new collection, Tammam White, right here.

Tammam White is a unique bridal collection of eco-luxe designer wedding gowns created and hand crafted in House of Tammam’s fair trade atelier in India.

The Tammam White ready-to-wear range of wedding dresses and accessories is made with luxury eco fabrics including organic-certified wild peace silk, sustainable bamboo satin, and 100% organic fair trade cotton satin jacquard and linings.

To encourage re-wear and help out the bride on a budget, the five piece range starts at just £300 and includes a hand embellished fishtail gown, a layered gown with detachable skirt, a simple cotton satin dress with silk sash, a full length coat dress and a satin cape.

The dresses are available exclusively though Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show supporter, GreenUnion.

I hope you enjoyed that stroll down the ethical bridalwear catwalk. If you have a favourite ethical bridalwear designer you think we should know about, get in touch!

Happy planning

Katie
