Save $ on your BIG DAY! Guest Blog Post Silverberrry Occasions

Helping You Save on your Big Day!

While planning a wedding during a recession, couples are making very careful decisions on where to spend the money that they’ve managed to save, while still making sure their big day turns out how they envisioned. Although overall spending on weddings has gone up by 5.2%, spending on items such as floral/décor, wedding cake, and ceremony musicians have all gone down.
We wanted to give you some options ranging from most expensive to least expensive to help you pick and choose what best suits your budget!

Wedding Date

All-Out: A full day and night affair on a Friday or Saturday.
Budget Friendly: A Sunday morning ceremony with an afternoon lunch reception.
Recession Rockin’: A mid-week evening soiree. Venues and vendors are usually cheaper to book and your guests will drink less alcohol with an early start to the work the next morning.

Cake

All-Out: An elaborate 5 tier hand-decorated masterpiece.
Budget Friendly: A beautiful multi-tiered faux cake for display, with a delicious but affordable slab cake to cut in the kitchen and serve to your guests.
Recession Rockin’: Recruit your best baker friend and make your own cake with supplies bought from your local Bulk Food store.

Music

All-Out: Live musicians throughout the entire day - from the Harpist at the ceremony to the 6 piece band playing throughout the reception.
Budget Friendly: Hire a DJ for the reception only.
Recession Rockin’: Want to really tighten the purse strings? Be your own DJ by picking all your favourite songs and plugging in your iPod! Remember to include songs that you know your guests will boogie-down to.

Invitations:

All-Out: Elegant invitations printed on pearlized paper with pockets and multiple inserts.
Budget Friendly: Have the invitation company print the invites and have your bridesmaids help you assemble them.
Recession Rockin’: Send out invitations electronically and have your guests RSVP via email. This is a great eco-friendly option also!

Being recession friendly doesn’t have to mean sacrificing everything you want. Decide what’s most important and least important to you on your big day and allocate your budget accordingly. This will allow you to splurge on the items at the top of your list, while scrimping and saving on those that matter least.
