Tackling a Momzilla
We all know when to look out for a bridezilla. Let’s be honest, it happens to the best of us when we’re under pressure to plan a near-perfect, once-in-a-lifetime event. Maybe you’ve been her, or maybe you were her maid of honor or bridesmaid. Either way, bridezilla is a tough bridge to cross and there’s not always an easy solution to calm the storm.
I’ve come to find that there can be something even more hard to handle than a stressed out, highly caffeinated, bride-to-be. …Her mom. It just so happens a bride is not the only member of the zilla species. Prepare yourself for a potential appearance from momzilla.
Don’t get me wrong, many moms are a huge source of help and support during wedding planning. Lord knows I would never have made it down the aisle in any sort of organized fashion without the help of my mom. But along the way there are times when you have to put your foot down. And this can be incredibly difficult, especially if your parents are the backbone of your wedding budget.
Just keep in mind that your wedding is exactly that… your wedding. So when your mom gets a little frazzled that the DJ isn’t booked yet and picks one out herself, it’s time to stand your ground. Do this by keeping a positive attitude and not adding any extra drama to an awkward situation. A simple, “I appreciate all you’re doing to help, but this isn’t quite what I had in mind” will help her get things back in perspective. It’s your wedding, it’s your day… have it your way. Just be sure to show gratitude and patience along the way.
