A Little DIY – Despite a tough economy people are still falling in love and getting married!  Couples are getting creative and designing and assembling flower arrangements.   Some are even baking their own wedding cakes and choosing “wedding cupcakes” as a trendy wedding cake alternative.  The simplest of all is selecting your own fall wedding favors and beautifully wrapping them for each guest.

Fall Wedding Tips for the Perfect Autumn Wedding 94 comments

Photobucket

September is just around the corner, and so is the fall wedding season. Autumn weddings have gained as much popularity as a summertime wedding. This could be because the cooler temperatures are a bit more inviting, and the rich, bold colors of the season are plentiful. Autumn is the perfect backdrop for a wedding, and now is the time for couples to start planning their Fall wedding theme.

What are some ways to incorporate the colors, sights, and smells of this season into your Fall wedding? The solution may be easier than you think. Here are some tips on how to bring the beauty of Autumn to your wedding reception:

· Use Bountiful Table Centerpieces. Many brides choose table centerpieces with colorful, hardy flowers such as mums or sunflowers in rich gold, yellow, burgundy, orange, and red hues. These flowers can be tied with a deep color ribbon and entwined with sprays of fall leaves to add the perfect touch to the centerpiece. Using a cornucopia as a table centerpiece is another seasonal idea to display your flower arrangement. Adding a place card holder in a fall leaf design at each table will also help complete the look.

· Have Fun with Wedding Cake Supplies & Accessories. There are an abundance of wedding cake supplies and accessories to continue the Fall wedding theme at your reception that can be festive and fun. You can choose a cake top painted in rich fall colors to top your wedding cake, or even add a personalized Autumn leaf serving set to cut and serve your wedding cake.

· Give Your Guests a Seasonal Favor. There are many practical Fall wedding favors you can give your guests as a memento of your special day. Some couples choose scented soaps, or elegant Autumn double leaf bookmarks for their guests. Some chose a delicious favor, such as a homemade caramel apple or other tasty seasonal treat wrapped in a clear cellophane gift bag and tied with a maple leaf gift tag and bow.

The ideas are endless when it comes to planning an Autumn wedding. The colors, sights, and smells are beautiful and crisp this time of the year. From adding seasonal flowers, to an Autumn leaf motif on your wedding cake, you can incorporate as much or as little of the season into your theme to create a picture perfect, Autumn wedding!

All Hail Pale Bridesmaid Dresses!! 41 comments

The following post is from @gift_girl’s new blog, Girly Wedding.

All Hail Pale Bridesmaid Dresses!! An undeniable trend for 2011 are pale bridesmaid dresses. These light bridesmaid dresses are often the same or a few shades different from the bride. Bridesmaids Dresses everywhere are turning up in colors that were a short while ago only considered for brides. Bridesmaid dresses in neutral colors, ivory, and even white add a softer more subtle distinction between the bride and her girls, a distinction less pronounced but not less beautiful.

These light bridesmaid dresses are all the rage and not just for bridesmaids, light prom dresses, and neutral colors clothing are very trendy right now.  Pale bridesmaid dresses also work well to offset brides who choose light wedding dresses with a hint of color.

Love this trend. I find it so romantic and sweet.  You?

Something New & Something Blue… 13 comments

Photobucket

While some brides love a contemporary wedding, many are still staying true to following the age old tradition of having “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” for good luck on their wedding day.

How can a bride have a contemporary wedding and incorporate this tradition into it? The solution is simple, with the use of these tips and a beautiful wedding favor.

Many brides borrow their jewelry from a friend or family member to wear on their wedding day. Wearing a loved one’s pearl necklace or jewels as you walk down the aisle is a sentimental moment and will easily satisfy the tradition of “something borrowed” and in many cases “something old” if the jewelry worn is a family heirloom.

Adding something new and something blue to your wedding day can be easy and fun. Some brides opt to wear blue shoes, polish their fingernails blue, or even wear a blue garter. Others add blue ribbons to their bouquet or to the centerpieces at their wedding reception.

Another simple way to add something blue and new is by selecting a wedding favor that is blue. The Something Blue Gift Box Candle Favor is a perfect example of a “something blue” favor. The miniature blue candle is packaged in a white box and is neatly tied with a blue satin ribbon which reads “something blue.”

So whether you choose to add your own blue flair or decide to select a blue wedding favor, adding something blue to your wedding day will follow this age old tradition and bring good luck to you for years to come.

A classy Halloween wedding that’s sure to thrill 11 comments

It can be considered faux pas to have your wedding fall on or near a holiday. The scheduling can often conflict with vacation plans and you may not want your day to be known as “that wedding that ruined our Fourth of July plans” or “that cliche wedding on Valentine’s Day.”

However, if you and your fiance were already considering a fall wedding and really enjoy Halloween, consider a Halloween-themed wedding.

Don’t go screaming in the other direction before you hear all the details! We’re not talking cheap plastic jack-o-lanterns as centerpieces or fake cobwebs over the doorways. Far from it! Think autumn meets edgy. With your special Halloween touches, your fall wedding could be one for the ages.

Plan ahead: If you plan ahead–up to a year in advance–you can find Halloween novelty items on discount after the previous Halloween holiday. Don’t go overboard on the cheesy stuff like plastic coffins or witch broomsticks, but instead look for leaf garlands, scented candles, glitter pine cones, cute pumpkin bowls for a candy bar, fake fall flowers and berries and even antique-looking glasses for toasting!

Color-coordinated: One of the big questions is about the color palette of a Halloween-themed wedding. It is obviously in fine Halloween tradition to stick with the orange and black combo. However, try incorporating orange as the accent color and have black and white be the main color scheme. Also, don’t be scared to experiment with other fall colors like yellow or a deep red. Here’s some inspiration:

Other special touches and ideas to consider:

  • Don’t require it, but give your guests the option of dressing in costume
  • Antique, classic dress for the bride
  • Cummerbunds for the groom and groomsmen
  • Wrought iron candelabras for centerpieces
  • Serve apple cider and pumpkin cake
  • Feature a candy bar with a wide variety of sweets including a Halloween favorite, candy corn!
  • Choose historic venues, like an old church or mansion

Happy planning & Happy Halloween!

The Mix & Match Bridesmaid 49 comments

Bridesmaid dresses. Bleh. Ugh. …I know, I know. What would seemingly be a fun time dress shopping turns into a matching and coordinating (and unflattering) fiasco.

Brides, I beg of you to embrace–or at least look into–the new bridesmaid dress trend. We’ve recently explored finding a be-all-end-all dress that each of your bridesmaids will wear (probably reluctantly). But here’s an idea: Let your bridesmaid select her own dress. Seriously! It is nearly impossible to find a dress that matches your color scheme, flatters every figure AND doesn’t break the bank. If you give your bridesmaids options, they will have more freedom and flexibility to feel comfortable and beautiful.

Bridesmaid dresses have taken a turn for the better to semi-formal wear but this idea pushes bridesmaid style one step further. So what’s the best way to do this?

You can select palette options (perhaps with a few guidelines) so your bridesmaids will all be in the same hue.

For the daring bride, you can let them wear all kinds of styles!

Look how happy they are to be wearing a dress of their choosing! (courtesy of weddingbee.com)

You can choose a store with selections of different dresses in the same color and let them pick! (Great examples: J.Crew, Banana Republic, Nordstrom & Ann Taylor)

You can honor your maid of honor with a dress that stands out!

And with autumn right around the corner (it is, even if we’re all in denial) don’t forget about some natural color schemes that will bring your fall wedding to life.

What lovely fall colors! (courtesy of weddingannouncer.com, jcrew.com & theknot.com)

So, give your friends a reason to agree to be in your wedding. You’re not the only one that wants to look beautiful; your loved ones want to feel just as wonderful as you do on your special day. Spread the cheer!

What are you planning for your bridesmaids?
