Top 10 Etsy Wedding Invitations 33 comments

This week we want to share our top 10 Etsy wedding invitations. Handmade and DIY weddings are popular now for so many reasons; whether it’s adding a unique flair or giving your day that special touch, nothing sets the tone better than a fabulous wedding invitation. By getting your invites from a handmade site like Etsy you are ensuring that they will be specially made for you and, best of all, make a big impact on your guests. Here are our favorite finds to add to your wedding wish list.

These first few are bold and very high impact. They’re perfect for a less traditional wedding or couples who are trying to inject their nuptials with a sense of fun. Of course, the colors are customizable to match your theme, but invitations like these really give you a sense of some of the more colorful invitation options out there.

Etsy also has lots to offer as far as more traditional and understated wedding invitations go. Other brides may be looking for something more classic, and we think these four are very elegant while still offering a little something special.

Of course, we had to share some of the more interesting finds and these two are especially unique. The first are printed individually on a hand press and feature a fun vintage image. The technique of hand pressing means each invitation is printed individually, making them more like one-of-a-kind art pieces.  Second are these incredible invitations printed on red cedar.  They are so reminiscent of carving your love’s initials into a tree. Oh, and we’d bet these have a nice cedar smell to them too which is a fun added bonus!

You’ve said yes, now its time to tell the rest of the world. You want your invitations to be as special and unique as you are, to show off your personality to your carefully selected family and friends.
But where do you start? After consulting with your fiancé, making the list of invitees, and checking and double-checking names, you begin the hunt for the perfect wedding invitation.
This is the point where it all starts to get overwhelming. You suddenly realize that hundreds of sites offer wedding invitation services and each of those carry hundreds of invitations. Searching through them blindly is a painful way to start your wedding planning.
So where do you turn?

Tying the knot during the holiday season can be extraordinary. The time is to be spent with family and a wedding can provide the perfect atmosphere for catching up with loved ones. Incorporating the holidays can even be started before the actual wedding. How adorable are these holiday invites?

So don’t think you need to have Santa and Elves all over your wedding to make your guests feel the holiday warmth. Those ideas can be great, but think deep red berries and pretty ornaments for your table displays. White Christmas lights and luminaries can make the night feel magical while pops of green or silver are sure to impress your guests.

If you are planning a wedding during the holiday season, don’t be afraid to incorporate some beautiful holiday details! When done right, it’s simply beautiful.

How to let your guests know to save the date for your wedding! 1 comment

Wishpot brings you creative ways to let your guests know to save the date. Your wedding date is a momentous occasion and when you let others know to book that date on their calendars do it in style.

clip_image002

Have your wedding date printed or embroidered on something your guests will carry with them. Such as dainty hankies (1) like the ones found on Pretty Chicky’s Wishpot list. Or print your date on mint tins (8) like the ones from Beaucoup Favors. Print your save the date on something your guests will keep with them and appreciate.

Print your wedding date on something that your guests will see often, and can proudly display, like a fridge magnet. The horizontal fridge magnet from Exclusively Weddings (7) or the vertical fridge magnet from terrys village (6) are two examples of how magnets can beautifully display your wedding date. And each time your guests go to their fridge their excitement and anticipation for your wedding grows.

Choose a design print that reflects your wedding theme. Postcards (2) like the one from lucky luxe couture correspondence let your guests know that your wedding will have a vintage feel. In comparison to the one from Maupromos (4) which has a more elegant feel to it.

Choose a save your date that represents your couples personality. Caricatures (3) and now playing photo collages add a personal and playful touch to your save the dates. Another fun idea for your save the dates are stickers. The ones from Maupromos show a whimsical side to save the dates.

And if you are looking for the more eco-friendly options consider evite and printing on eco-friendly cards that can later be planted. Regardless of what you do, be creative, choose something your guests will see and want to keep, and most importantly make your save the dates reflect your wedding and your person. Your wedding is about celebrating your couple and so should everything about it.

Guest Blog Post OneWed Trim your Wedding Budget 4 comments

Insider Tip: Leave Work at the Office

the-office-wedding-jim-pam-wedding-dress-jenna-john_main.jpg

Don’t let what happened to Pam and Jim happen to you, leave work at the office and the office at work.

Everyone knows that the easiest way to trim your wedding budget is to trim your guest list. What’s a little less clear is how to make those cuts. One fairly easy way to make the cut is not inviting co-workers.

To be polite, if you’re inviting half the department or office, then you need to invite everyone. Not doing so will leave co-workers with hurt feelings that could affect your career. Don’t forget that if your co-workers are married or live with a partner, you’ll need to invite that partner as well, even if you’ve never met him or her. Let’s say you work in a department of 10, if you have 5 friends in your department that you’d like to include you may be adding 20 people to your guest list.

So, think carefully before inviting co-workers.

Guest Blog Post OneWed - Dot Your I’s: Making Sure Your Invitations are Inviting and Informative 2 comments

In my advice column I recently got a letter from a confused bridal shower guest. She was unclear on what exactly the “theme” of the bridal shower meant. Was she supposed to bring a certain type of gift, and if so, what?

I won’t go into the particulars of her situation, but it definitely pointed out the need for what I consider the two rules of invitations for any event: Be Informative and Be Inviting.

Photobucket

Be informative obviously means giving the time, date, and location of an event, but it also means giving your guests some clues about the type of event. If you want to have a formal event, make your invitation formal with classic fonts and wording.  Don’t expect people to understand that your purple invitation with pink writing and pictures of horses is actually an invitation for an adults-only formal event, not a six-year-old’s birthday party.

Be inviting means that the invitation should be welcoming. There shouldn’t be restrictions (no kids allowed, black tie only) and there shouldn’t be registry information, as this sends the message that there’s an admission price for the event. The invitation is not the only communication you’ll have with guests. There’s plenty of room on your wedding website, or if you’re a OneWed reader, your Wedding Pre-Party page, to get that sort of information across.
