Wearing Glasses at your Wedding? 45 comments

While contacts are a convenient option for some brides, eyeglasses are a great way to not only show your personal style, but also feel like yourself while you walk down the aisle. Here are a few tips for wearing glasses on your big day.

1) One of the most important things to remember when shopping for wedding day glasses is to find a pair with anti-reflective coating, which will keep your glasses from shining in pictures. It may also be important to remind bridesmaids and immediate family of this option if they’ll be joining you for a lot of your photo ops.

2) Decide which eyeglasses you want to wear in advance and wear them. You should get used to the way they feel on your face, especially if they’re brand new. You may even decide that they’re not the right fit and change your mind.

3) Match your glasses with your dress and other accessories. Not just color, but style as well. If you’re wearing a vintage dress and jewelry, go with vintage specs.

4) Give your photographer a heads up that you will be wearing glasses on your big day. Often times, they’ll have specific techniques and lenses to reduce glare. Let them be prepared.

5) Work with your make-up artist to determine colors and shades that will flatter your glasses and not be overshadowed by them. It is important to emphasize your eyes, not hide them.

6) Finally, buy glasses that will flatter your face. While chunky, dark or colorful frames might be fun for day to day, a more delicate, neutral-toned frame will be less distracting and allow guests to focus on you.

Prescription glasses are a great way to accessorize, but more importantly if you’ve worn them your whole life, they’ll make you feel more comfortable. Whether your want to go fancy, or a bit more subtle, here a few great options for wedding day eyeglasses from GlassesUSA.com.

Harry Potter Inspired Wedding Themes 39 comments

The following post is from @gift_girl’s blog, Girly Wedding.

Harry Potter inspired Wedding Themes. Having a unified wedding theme can go a long way in helping to create a cohesive look and feel to your day. You may not know this about me but I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. And since Deathly Hallows Part II is just about to open in theaters. (I can’t wait.) I decided to see if anyone ever thought of using Harry Potter as inspiration for their wedding day.

I know what you are thinking. Really? Harry Potter? Yes Harry Potter. Even thought I love Harry Potter I wasn’t sure about a Harry Potter Wedding Theme. But after seeing some of these pictures I can see why some people did.

Ok I love this. I love that each of the bridesmaid is holding one of the Harry Potter books. And how fun are the pink and purple baubles instead of flower bouquets? And the black, pink, and purplewedding colors also very Harry Potter.

Ok not gonna lie it would be really cool to use these instead of table numbers. Maybe a litttle geeky but really cool. If you wanna see more of this Harry Potter wedding check out the post by Geoff White. The groom actually looks a little Harry Potter and there is a sorting hat.

This picture is wow. Apparently this couple actually got Harry potter wands as a gift and this was the inspiration for the picture below. It is super creative and testimony to the wonders of photoshop.

If you wanna see more themed pictures check out my post movie inspired wedding pictures.

Anyone else as crazy about Harry Potter? Fess Up. I know you’re out there. :)

Smile: It’s Your Engagement Photo Shoot! 37 comments

Congratulations, you just got engaged! …Um, now what?

One of the first steps in planning a one-of-a-kind wedding is securing a photographer. Don’t underestimate the power of photography! Finding a photographer that matches your style as a couple is absolutely key. And luckily for you, visiting wedding photography websites are a perfect way to sample what kind of work they can produce (not to mention how much it will cost!).

After you contact and book your photographer, one of your first “wedding-y” things you will do as an engaged couple is shoot your engagement photos for your announcements, Save the Dates, etc. Most wedding photographers package together an engagement session with the wedding day itself. This absolutely genius concept allows you to save money, ensures you know the wedding photographer well in advance and creates thematic continuity in your photographs from the engagement to the ceremony. Genius!

Engagement session photos are amazing (and different from actual wedding photos) because of how personalized they can be. They can be traditional and classic or unique and off-the-wall… or both! Let’s take a look at two common engagement photo shoot styles:

Romantic: Vintage, classic and beautiful are common traits for a romantic photo shoot. Simple poses paired with beautiful lighting in traditional backgrounds and landscapes make viewers say, “Awwww…” Location ideas: local park, beach, rose garden, big trees, hiking trail, country club golf course, open field, park bench.

Urban: In contrast to the simplicity of romantic photos, photos taken in cities show the couple in an everyday type of setting. Location ideas: skyline in the background, graffiti wall, alley, iron gate fence, old church, modern architecture, bookstore, coffee shop, bustling city corner.

I love how natural, yet adorable, these are in a city setting. (Courtesy of hubpages.com)

Engagement shoot location ideas:

  • Where you first met
  • Where your first date was
  • Your favorite restaurant or coffee shop
  • Where he proposed
  • Where you first said “I love you”
  • Your alma mater (if you met in college or high school)
  • Where your parents got married
  • Stadium of your favorite sports team
  • Amusement park

And try incorporating these props:

  • Your dog!
  • Balloons
  • An umbrella
  • Antique furniture
  • Old books
  • A sign that says “Love”, “I love you”, or your names/initials
  • Your car
  • Bicycles
  • Flowers
  • Suitcases
  • Sunglasses
  • Hats
  • Musical instruments

Some of my favorite engagement shoot stand-alone shots that I LOVE:

Love the nautical theme. (Courtesy of MindCastleBlog.com)

Love the big & little contrast. (Courtesy of jaclynmichele.com)

Love the spontenaity of this! (Courtesy of ericjphotography.com)

Love the creative poses! (Courtesy of edmontonphotographerblog.com)

Love the tenderness and of course the close-up detail of the ring. (Courtesy of DavidWeddingPhotography.com)

Love the passion and the youthful secret hideaway aspect. (Courtesy of daveandcharlotte.com)

What theme or style caught your eye for your engagement photo shoot? Get creative! Talk to your fiance before your session and decide on wonderful places that represent the two of you as a couple. Remember to go to several locations, bring a few outfits and practice your million dollar smile. Your photographer has ideas but as an artist, he or she will want to be innovative and hear your ideas.

Guest Post: Relentless Bride – Wedding Canvas Art! 4 comments

I recently attended and was part of several weddings in 2009. From being in the bridal party to coordinating for the day of and just being part of the early stages of planning, I had such a blast in every little way … and it was even more special for me b/c these were all my friends who i shared this with.

I’ve talked about Stephanie from Geezees Custom Canvas Art before (here)… in fact, she did a giveaway on my site… but I finally got to use her myself. Not only was she super easy to work with, my non-creative mind needed her guidance to really make the gifts I had created special… The turnover time was quick and her detailed questions really helped me to figure out what i wanted to do for each photo… so check this out:

Christine & Ben’s Wedding:

You will notice on some canvases nothing was written, on others name, location and/or date, and then for one i had the lyrics of their first song. Much of these were just depending on the person or the type of image I thought they would want to hang in their home and also, Stephanie helped with her suggestions. Each of my friends LOVED their gifts and found the personalized touch so special. I am so happy with the work done and couldn’t be more thrilled that I was able to give them something that helped to memorialize their wonderful day in a way that no one else had.

Definitely check out Stephanie’s site Geezees Custom Canvas Art and Her blog… if you need a great gift idea (not just wedding)… and Valentine’s day IS coming up soon! (hint hint), I’d highly recommend this b/c its just so unique and puts a personal touch on your gift.
