Use your wedding registries to set the right mood 6 comments

When adding home decor items to our wedding registries, most of us pick out items based on quality, modern fashion or just because they’re plan cute. But have you ever stopped to think how those items influence the mood in your home?

It’s not hard to see why color plays a big part in determining the mood in a room. Color is one of the first things we notice about an object, be it a car, t-shirt or sofa. So when you’re getting ready to start purchasing items for your home, think about the foundation you’re building upon. Are your wall colors conducive to your desired feel of the room?

Colors can be grouped into three different categories: active, passive or neutral.

Active colors are warm colors like red, orange and yellow. Warm colors are known to drum up feelings of confidence and positiveness in extroverted individuals. These colors inspire conversation and unleash creativity.

Passive colors, like blue, green and purple, have a calming and restoring effect on most individuals. These colors can sometimes cause sadness in some individuals. If you find you’re one of those individuals, liven up a passive color by picking a shade that isn’t overwhelmed with cool tones, for example a yellow hued green.

Neutral colors are the shades you can’t really classify as a “color”. The make up the many shades of brown, beige, grey and white. Neutral colors are great for sending a restful message to your brain. It’s no coincidence many coffee shops and spas decorate in neutrals, as they typically de-stress most individuals.

Too many colors to choose from 4 comments

Picking out the color scheme for your wedding may seem like a simple task to some people, especially the groom. If I had a dollar for every time a groom said, “Pick out any colors you want, just not bright pink”, I’d be rolling in dough! The truth is, your wedding colors are very important, and will be incorporated in most of your future planning. So for all you future brides who really do understand your wedding colors reflect more than just the bridesmaids dress, how will you make such a tough decision?

Before looking through every possible wedding magazine for color inspiration, I encourage you to sit back and think about what the two of you truly enjoy. Are you nature enthusiasts who spend hours hiking through the Pacific Northwest? Base your colors around the surroundings you love, and include birch tree branches and moss-themed centerpieces. If you’re sand and surf lovers, waiting to catch the next big wave, get sunny with accents of yellow and peacock blue.

If your activities don’t scream color at you, think about your favorite atmospheres. Where do the two of you like to go out for a date? If you love a classy mexican fiesta atmosphere, then pick colors like red, orange and bright purple. If your favorite happy hour spot boasts deep red and black decor, go for a glam rock color scheme.

Your wedding theme, colors included, should capture the interests and activities the two of you love most. It’s your chance to do everything your way and do it to the fullest!

Got a little jelly in the belly?! No comments yet

Alright, if you think I’m going to start talking to you about diet tips… wrong! Needless to say, if you were looking for that… we’ve got other blog posts that cover that, but this one does not! Of all the times to be racked with guilt about indulging in not-so-heathy treats, your wedding day should not be one of them. You and your guests deserve to have a little fun and enjoy one some sweet treats.

Setting up a wedding-color themed candy bar is all the rage right now. I adore these little things! The glass jars filled with colorful candy just call out to your guests to come and play! It’s like being a kid again at the Sweet Factory or your local candy store. I love the clear plastic bags that are set out so guests can scoop up their favorite goodies, slap on a monogramed sticker and take the bag home for a midnight snack.

Some of the more popular, must-have candies? Definitely go with some colorful JellyBellys. These flavorful candies add a huge pop of color, aren’t over expensive and can be found in sweet, tart or even decadent flavors. Grab a punch of color with kiwi green or orange sherbet, or go back to basics with coconut. Or maybe just get a little crazy with the smoothie mix. Your guest’s tongues will be happy and the sugar rush will pull them to the dance floor!

Hello! My first Wishpot guest post!- I’m super excited, so let’s get right to it!

I look at hundreds of images each week while looking for content for my blog. One of the elements that always stands out in photos are pops of bright colors, especially in engagement sessions.

Spring has Sprung! Beautiful ideas for an outdoor picnic wedding.  Save fabulous ideas like these in your Wishpot Wedding registry for wedding inspirations!

Board #387: Jadeite and Lawn

The beautiful weather we’ve been having has me itching for a picnic. As much as I love a casual picnic, I think a more dressed up version is also appropriate for a wedding. In today’s inspiration board, I drew inspiration from this Kate Spade ad, using jadeite and lawn greens to create a fresh springtime palette.

Week of Color :: Aqua + Red

One of the hottest color combinations we are seeing this year in weddings is aqua and red.  This will always be one of my favorite duos, the bold colors complimenting each other makes for gorgeous wedding decor! Use the aqua as the main backdrop and red as a pop of color in most of the details of the day.

Choosing Your Colour Palette

With the trends in wedding colours varying year by year, trying to keep up with what’s hot and what’s not for your wedding can at times become overwhelming and slightly confusing.
So how can you determine the perfect colour combo for your wedding?
It’s simple; follow the colours of the season. Not only will the inspiration around you be endless, but by using what is readily available you are likely to save money along the way.

Here are a few suggestions to lead you in the right direction:

Spring
As the days become longer, now is the time to brighten things up with sunny and cheerful colours. Various shades of green paired with the pink of your favorite flower are a great way to reflect the new life springing up around you. Or try drawing inspiration from the sky with shades of blue, yellow and cream. Keeping it light and fresh is the key.

Summer
Bright, vibrant colours keep the playful mood of summer alive. Choose your favorite colour and use radiant variations of it, such as red, pink and coral or royal blue and turquoise.
Another easy way to create the perfect setting is to find inspiration from your favorite summer foods. Citrus colours such as lime green, yellow and orange create an impressive summer spread.

Fall
With the changing colours in nature comes a change in colour schemes. Slowly fading are the bright hues of summer, now being replaced with the lush earthy tones of fall. Chocolate brown, burnt orange and accents of sage green make the perfect harvest combination. Still want to keep a bright colour in the mix? Pair an earthy colour, such as moss green with a lemony yellow for a great balance.

fall1 fall2
Winter
From sparkling snow to a twinkling star atop a tree, whimsy is all around. Paring colours such as ice blue, cream and silver with a darker shade of blue like navy creates a wintery theme without feeling too cold.
Want to warm up the surroundings even further? Go for rich colours such as forest green, cranberry red and gold inspired by your favorite holiday wreath.

Follow these simple guidelines and your wedding is sure to make a lasting impression no matter what time of the year!
